DeepSeek Introduces Fees for API Search and Fetch Tools

Today brings one modest platform update: DeepSeek introduced explicit pricing for its live retrieval tools on November 1, 2026.

DeepSeek Adds Per-Request Pricing for Live Web Tools

DeepSeek introduced usage fees for its Search and Fetch developer tools on November 1, 2026. Calls via the API or coding agent environments now cost $0.75 per 1,000 successful requests. Previously, builders primarily budgeted for input and output text units during automated workflows. By charging separately for web browsing, the provider puts an explicit price on live information retrieval.

What it means: Autonomous coding assistants frequently query external documentation multiple times per prompt. Teams running continuous background tasks must now monitor tool invocation counts alongside standard token billing.

Example: An automated testing agent that reads 2,000 live documentation pages through the Fetch tool now adds a direct charge of $1.50 to its run.
